On the last Thursday of the month the talented and warm-hearted Yvonne Stowell (left) hosts a spin-in at her yurts at the FibreWorks Gallery in Pender Harbour. There are three large yurts - a gallery, a space for workshops and Yvonne's studio.
The present exhibit was Primitive Elegance by Marilyn Foubert. The beautiful weavings which incorporate natural materials loooked particularly at home in the setting of the round yurt.
The spin-in takes place in Yvonne's studio which has a large loom in the centre and space for spinning wheels around the outside. On the shelves of the wall are packages of all manner of wonderful fibres.
I seldom come away from Yvonne's empty handed! I was hoping to buy some locally raised fibre and was delighted to get some beautifully soft naturally coloured alpaca wool from the alpacas of Wendy and Eric Holtz of Thormamby Island and some dark brown llama wool from Laughlin Creek Llamas in Madeira Park.
